I got interested why ICE was doing traffic stops. They are calling it a "targeted traffic stop" which means law enforcement already suspected driver of committing a crime. No word as to what crime. They claim they had an administrative arrest warrant and were following him after he left home. Apparently did not try to arrest him AS he was leaving home. No claim that they produced it before bashing in his window and "boxing him in." No word whether the govt vehicles were marked as such. He drove backward and forward after being boxed. In that motion he hit the fed vehicles. That is being called "assault with a deadly weapon."
Better be careful I guess if you hit a neighbor's car while trying to park. You could get sued for assault. Just THINK of all the fender benders at are sudden felonies.
If he was an overstay, rather than a "cross border illegally" guy, that is not a crime. He's apparently been here for some time and was active in the community. He as a "citizen journalist" had been reporting a lot on ICE activities on TikTok.
Susan - I'm sorry I didn't respond to you sooner. I'm in the midst of moving, and we had our realtor and a photographer at our house yesterday, so things were really hectic. (We had to take a long walk and were stuck outside with our dogs for several hours, too.)
Anyway, I wanted to thank you so much for the information you provided me, which I'm going to share with others in my upcoming post. (I also talked about you today in my podcast, as you jumped on this story and also did the work.)
As you know, these thugs are going after ANYONE with Brown skin. Some of them are U.S. citizens. And you're right. The ones who "crossed illegally" did not commit a crime. That's just a misdemeanor. They shouldn't be treated in this way.
I also read yesterday about the TikToker Carlitos Ricardo Parias, who's a well-known figure and father in the community, who was shot.
It's just one of countless examples of how ICE is wreaking havoc in communities across the country.
well thank you, A local paper and the NYT did the work. I just did a large language search and assimilated it 🙄🙄🙄
(but I didn't ASK AI; I hate AI. Just acted like it).
BTW it isn't even a misdemeanor to overstay. It's a purely civil issue, just like breach of contract. The US is SUING in immigration court, damages are a deportation order. Usually a party to a contract is not stuck in a concentration camp, and for a long time, long term overstays were just given parole, with or without a bond, while the case was heard. But with this administration, if you can't imprison brown folks AFTER judgment, you damn well better do it before.
There actually a bunch of reasons one can end up being allowed to stay beyond asylum and credible fear. I had a friend, overstayed 20 years, was allowed to stay till his minor kids became adults.

Yes, I hear you about the overstaying. I was just referring to crossing the border.
All of it is just so disgusting. It makes my blood boil.
ah. yes. RE crossing may have more penalty, but just crossing and no violence, not much.
Ok just searched and saw it occurred around 9 this morning in South LA.
yes

Thanks. I’ll dig into it more tomorrow.
This happened today in LA? Have not heard about it.
Thank you Cryn.
Absolutely. It’s deeply disturbing to read about these events. But we all must stay informed.
