I would say to anyone who has never fought with a weapon against another human that the idea of arming yourself against a threat that outnumbers & outguns & has been training to do such irreversible harm to you is not a good choice, even if it is a decision one would make in order to mitigate your fear, this machine we all face now is much more adept & powerful than what has been unleashed in Gaza & Sudan, they merely wait because this will be the biggest prize it has taken down yet, the set up has to be timed just right, just a few more compute capabilities, a few more energy sources & it can do away with the last vestiges of the false democracy we have lived under, it will be relentless in its consolidation of power after that, the violence will be unimaginable, the only salvation will be in the mutual aid we can create out of the byproducts & waste the machine creates, it will get distracted from conquest & containment as it manifests its own destiny, the fulfillment of its own prophecy, a convergence between the technogarchs & their machine intelligence, it is the driving force behind all of this, it feeds on all the online chatter as we speak, the more information the worldwide turmoil creates, the more the machine feeds, computes, absorbs resources, poisons our ability to live, we will be symmetrically pushed to the brink, to a place where there will be, possibly one last opportunity to turn the tide, but it won’t be now, the scales have tipped too far, we will have to survive the trap that is being sprung, the springs pushed to their near limit, poised to contract very soon…you can sense it coming if you still yourself completely in your most sober moments…don’t be afraid, this was never a perfect union, it was 13 corporations running out a 250 yr old clock, justice was always blind, the scales never weighed perfectly, this chaos was always promised…our last hope should be to do better if we ever get a chance to rebuild, but first, there will be havoc wreaked & the last remnants of the thinnest enlightenments dissolved on a vicious wind like a tattered curtain in the window of a burning building that has just been bombed…

All great points, A. Razor. Like I said, I’m not advocating for gun ownership. People will determine what’s best for them. I personally do not own a gun.

Yes, you put it very well, I was just adding my two cents, as it is something I have heard from other folks I know, I think your estimation of where we are is spot on, more concentration on mutual aid & building resilience into our communities & expanding that, I agree with that wholeheartedly.

Great essay. Regarding the issue of whether to arm yourself or not. I was reminded of the opening chapter of George MacDonald’s historical novel set in the time of the Scottish border reivers, The Candlemass Road. The question is posed to the heroine, raised in safety as a courtly lady, who finds herself alone, having to confront brutal outlaws. Would she prefer a priest or a warrior to come knocking at her front door during a violent attack ? In these treacherous times, if you find that you are not able to bear arms, at least be in close touch with an ally who can🔥

Another thought. Jack Hopkins published a very nice article yesterday about other ways to resist /subvert this government that are legal and non-violent.

Cryn this was an amazing article. I have forwarded it to everyone I know. Also, you were reading my mind. About halfway through your essay. I specifically thought," should I buy a gun???" Then you said, "Many people have asked if I should buy a firearm." You then reported personal ambivalence about the issue. I have also been struggling with that question. So far I have not purchased a gun.

Also, I really liked your sentiment about the fact that we are experiencing collective trauma. We are going on with our lives, going to work, going to school, etc. Acting like everything is normal. A video that illustrates this point.

Once again, thank you for your informative and vital article.

Peaceful protest only! They want fights to justify the police state! (Don't forget to record video, police state tactics thrive under anonymity).

That’s why the public needs to coordinate and exercise their force together. Peaceful protests won’t accomplish anything.

This explains how to gunk up the works while staying on the right side of the law.

I agree that peaceful protests are not enough. That does not mean that we go rogue. We may just need to make things more difficult for them.

We certainly don't need to be making things easier for them. Unfortunately. I feel that many, including many of our elected officials, have preemptively folded.

I am not arguing in favor of it, and, if you haven’t noticed, we’re in a police state. As Dan Mage said below, if force is initiated against you, what choice will you make?

Mike G's avatar

I suspect that if you've got a weapon in an altercation with them, they will first murder you, and then have justification to present to the media "Domestic Terrorist!", which will, in turn, weaken the cause of Justice.

Cryn Johannsen's avatar

They already consider us domestic terrorists…

Mike G's avatar

yep. They consider themselves "Patriots" and "Christians" too.

The question is not whether to initiate the use of force; I agree that it would be suicidal. The question is, when force is initiated against you, do you go quietly? For me it's a moot point, I am not allowed by law to own any firearms so my keyboard is my only weapon, but it's a question that each person must answer for themselves.
